Breast augmentation
There are many different types, shapes and sizes of implants available, which can help make your breasts feel and look larger, fuller and firmer. At BMI Healthcare, our consultants will talk you through the options to make sure you make the right choice for you.
The operation involves inserting breast implants behind the breast tissue. Breast implants are usually made from silicone and filled with either silicone gel or saline and the different implants will give you different results. The usual place of incision is along the natural crease underneath your breast, although it can be made under the armpit, or on the areola, the area around the nipple. As with all surgery, a small amount of scarring is expected, but this will be hidden and will fade with time.
The operation will be performed under a general anaesthetic and you will need to stay in the hospital for one or two nights. Patients are recommended to have a week off work to allow time to rest and recover comfortably at home. If your job involves any strenuous movement, your consultant may advise you to take more time off. You will probably experience some pain and initial discomfort following the operation, but you will be prescribed painkillers, which will ease this.
There are risks involved in undergoing any surgery, and these will be explained in full by your consultant during your initial consultation.
