Thread vein treatment
Thread veins can be unsightly and unflattering and can affect the face, arms and legs. They appear as thin lines and vary in colour from red and blue to purple, but the actual cause of them is unknown.
BMI Healthcare offers two main procedures to assist in the removal of thread veins. They both aim to cause the vein walls to fuse together and prevent blood flow. Once the vein is non-functional, the body simply dissolves and absorbs it.
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical remedy that involves injecting the vein with a special solution. The alternative is to undergo laser treatment that will heat the walls of the vein until they disintegrate.
The treatment does not take long, but may need to be repeated to achieve the best results. It will take a few weeks following the procedure for the absorption to take place and the full effects of the treatment to be clearly evident.
Side effects may include swelling, tenderness and discolouring. Your normal routine can be resumed almost directly, although you will be advised to follow certain procedures such as moisturising and avoiding sunlight.
